Working at the intersection of cultural studies, media studies, and feminist theory, Kate is the author and editor of eight books, including most recently, The End of Forgetting (Harvard University Press, 2019) and Content (The MIT Press, 2022). Her writing on technology, youth cultures, and education can also be found in publications such as the MIT Technology Review, Wired, Literary Hub, and the Times Higher Education Supplement.
Prior to arriving at The New School in 2008, Kate completed degrees at Trent University, Simon Fraser University, and York University. From 2000 to 2008, she taught at Toronto Metropolitan University on a part-time and, eventually, full-time basis in The Chang School of Continuing Education, Department of English, and Graduate Programme in Communication and Culture. In addition to her extensive experience in higher education, she has a long history of working as a researcher and consultant in both the non-profit and private sectors.
